 Sustainability 

These competencies relate to moving higher education toward sustainability and creating a sustainable society. This would include institutionalizing sustainability, operational solutions, and smart growth.  Competencies include: 

  • Fostering creative sustainability leadership (e.g. encouraging community partnerships, smart growth, and promoting regional economic development)
  • Integrating sustainability into campus operations (e.g. developing a business case for sustainable designs, building green, transportation, and energy issues)
  • Championing holistic thinking about sustainability (e.g. decision-making and strategic planning through the lens of sustainability for the institution)
  • Developing a culture of sustainability (e.g. how an institutional commitment to sustainability can strengthen student, faculty, and alumni support)
  • Sustainability Assessment and Measurement (e.g. creating metrics and assessments to measure progress in operations, planning and other sustainability benchmarks)
