At no time in the recent history of higher education has the relationship between the chief academic officer (CAO) and the chief financial officer (CFO) mattered more. Academic leaders rely on their financial counterparts to support and fund their efforts, and financial leaders rely on academic officers to advance the core mission of the institution. A successful response to the economic crisis is dependent upon a common understanding of the situation and mutually agreed upon goals and tactics. To help understand and support this important relationship, ACE and NACUBO bring together CAOs and CFOs for a two-day meeting to address how they can build a more effective partnership and how to meet the tough challenges facing colleges and universities in today’s difficult environment.  Now in its third year, this program has proved a valuable means for opening lines of communication and fostering greater collaboration. Participants will explore ways to reach across organizational cultures that are derived from different backgrounds, different experiences, and different understandings of the levers and limits of their jobs.  Attendees also will have the opportunity use a highly effective approach for creating operational strategies to manage within current constraints while seeking opportunities to position their institutions for the future.
