2010 AASHE Conference: Campus Initiatives to Catalyze a Just and Sustainable World
Course Description:
AASHE is an association of colleges and universities that are working to create a sustainable future. Its mission is to empower higher education to lead the sustainability transformation. It does this by providing resources, professional development, and a network of support to enable institutions of higher education to model and advance sustainability in everything they do, from governance and operations to education and research.
Competency:
Fostering creative sustainability leadership (e.g. encouraging community partnerships, smart growth, and promoting regional economic development)
Integrating sustainability into campus operations (e.g. developing a business case for sustainable designs, building green, transportation, and energy issues)
Championing holistic thinking about sustainability (e.g. decision-making and strategic planning through the lens of sustainability for the institution)
Developing a culture of sustainability (e.g. how an institutional commitment to sustainability can strengthen student, faculty, and alumni support)
Sustainability Assessment and Measurement (e.g. creating metrics and assessments to measure progress in operations, planning and other sustainability benchmarks)
