2009 Smart and Sustainable Campuses Conference
Course Description:
The 4th Annual Smart & Sustainable Campuses Conference will be held at the Inn and Conference Center adjacent to the campus of the University of Maryland. Housing accommodations will also be at the Inn and Conference Center.Environmental consciousness is at an all-time high and colleges and universities are experiencing increased pressures from stakeholders to lower carbon outputs, green campus operations, and graduate students equipped to lead sustainability initiatives in all sectors. Join NACUBO, in partnership with several other higher education associations, for a comprehensive symposium on sustainability, including operational solutions, smart growth policies, and strategies for achieving climate neutrality.

Fostering creative sustainability leadership (e.g. encouraging community partnerships, smart growth, and promoting regional economic development)
Integrating sustainability into campus operations (e.g. developing a business case for sustainable designs, building green, transportation, and energy issues)
Championing holistic thinking about sustainability (e.g. decision-making and strategic planning through the lens of sustainability for the institution)
Developing a culture of sustainability (e.g. how an institutional commitment to sustainability can strengthen student, faculty, and alumni support)
